NICE Recommends New Treatment for Inoperable Plexiform Neurofibromas in Children

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has recommended a new treatment for inoperable plexiform neurofibromas associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) in children and young people.

NF1 is a genetic disorder that can cause tumors to grow on nerves, leading to pain, weakness, movement problems, and even sight loss.

The new treatment, called mirdametinib, is made by Merck Serono and sold under the brand name Ezmekly. It will be available for children aged two and above.

NICE estimates that around 200 patients up to the age of 17 could benefit from using this treatment.
