NTSB Investigates Fatal Runway Overrun by 21 Air Boeing 767 at Miami International Airport
A Boeing 767-33A freighter operated by 21 Air, registration N1997A, experienced a runway overrun at Miami International Airport on September 6, 2026. The aircraft was cleared to land on Runway 30 after flying in from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board's preliminary report, the plane touched down approximately 3,750 feet beyond the runway threshold at a speed of about 160 knots. The crew did not deploy the speed brakes or thrust reversers during the landing rollout, and the engines were throttled back only briefly before being returned to idle.
The aircraft overran the runway and struck two ground vehicles: a Ford Econoline van and a Toyota Corolla Cross SUV. Five people on the ground were killed, three suffered serious injuries, and the two flight crew members sustained minor injuries.
