Nvidia Customers Hit with AI Chip Price Hikes
Nvidia customers have been informed of upcoming price hikes for servers containing its AI chips, with increases ranging from 15% or more.
The price increases will take effect on systems shipped early next year and will impact systems including those with the flagship Vera Rubin and Grace Blackwell chips. Nvidia representatives did not comment on the matter.
The price hikes are due to growing costs, particularly for memory chip prices, which have surged amid a surge in demand for AI infrastructure.
Nvidia's accelerator processors are the heart of computers that create and run AI software, with their effectiveness depending on how much dynamic random access memory (DRAM) they are paired with. DRAM manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics Co., SK Hynix Inc., and Micron Technology Inc. have significant influence in the market.
Nvidia has raised prices for its gaming-oriented PC graphics cards earlier this month, and its customers' reaction to the latest price increase will depend on whether they can secure enough memory themselves.
