Nvidia Dominance Grows as Intel CPU Share Dips to New Low
The latest Steam Hardware Survey results are in for September 2026, and they show significant shifts in the market. Intel's CPU share has dropped to its lowest figure yet, while Nvidia GPUs have seen a nearly three percent climb against AMD and Intel competition.
According to the survey, AMD now holds 48.4% of the CPU market, just 1.9 percentage points behind Intel's 51.6%. This is one of the largest swings in recent memory, and suggests that AMD may be closing in on the 50% crossover point predicted for March 2027.
Nvidia GPUs have also seen a significant boost, with Big Green moving from 72.9% to 76% market share. The single fastest-growing Nvidia GPU is the RTX 5070, which now accounts for 6.2% of all systems that took the survey.
Octa-core CPUs are becoming increasingly common, likely due to the popularity of mid-range and high-end X3D AMD Ryzen models. CPU core counts continue to climb, with octa-core CPUs exceeding 30% of all respondents across Windows, Linux, and macOS.
