Nvidia Earnings: Will History Repeat Itself?
Nvidia's upcoming quarterly earnings report on August 26 will be closely watched by investors and analysts, but history suggests that the stock may not see a significant surge in price.
In the past five quarters, Nvidia's shares have only risen about 6% after its first-quarter 2026 results, while declining slightly after its second-quarter 2026 update, dropping 3% after its third-quarter 2026 results, falling by 5% after its fourth-quarter 2026 results, and once again declining after its first-quarter fiscal year 2027 results.
The market has become less impressed with Nvidia's outstanding financial results, as the company's dominance in the GPU market is now seen as a given. Analysts expect a muted or even slightly negative reaction to the upcoming earnings report unless Nvidia can deliver an exceptional performance.
Despite this, Nvidia remains a strong long-term bet due to its leadership in GPUs and CPUs, as well as its wide moat from switching costs. Analysts' bullish predictions about AI infrastructure spending may come to pass, with many corporations increasing their capex guidance, including Alphabet and Amazon.
