Nvidia, Google, and Emerald AI Launch Alliance to Optimize Data Center Power Use
Nvidia, Google, and Emerald AI have formed an alliance to develop data centers that can dynamically adjust their electricity use in response to power-grid conditions. The AI Energy Management Alliance (AEMA) aims to create faster grid connections for AI infrastructure by allowing data centers to reduce or shift electricity demand when the grid is constrained.
The alliance plans to establish common standards for response speed, reliability, performance measurement, and operational data sharing. This technology-neutral approach will focus on what a facility can deliver rather than the particular hardware or software it uses.
AEMA targets AI data centers that can adjust power demand by shifting computing workloads, using stored energy, tapping paired generation, or reducing demand during system contingencies. This flexibility could make better use of existing grid capacity and reduce demand during periods of stress.
