Nvidia Invests Billions in Texas Power Developer to Fuel AI Ambitions
Nvidia is making a massive bet on energy infrastructure to support its AI computing ambitions. The graphics chip titan plans to invest up to $3 billion in power infrastructure developer Lancium, which is behind the 'Stargate' data center campus in Texas.
The initial investment of $2 billion will give Nvidia approximately 20% equity stake in Lancium. If Lancium achieves specific milestones, such as successfully completing grid interconnections, Nvidia may invest an additional $1 billion to further increase its ownership.
This substantial capital injection will help Lancium accelerate its business expansion, as the company is actively evaluating the possibility of pursuing an initial public offering as early as 2027. The investment also reflects a shift in how tech giants approach infrastructure, with major cloud providers increasingly opting for direct equity investments to align themselves with power developers.
