Nvidia Jetson Found in Russian Missile Despite Export Controls

The Ukrainian Main Directorate of Intelligence claims to have discovered an Nvidia Jetson Orin computer module in Russia's S-71M 'Monochrome' cruise missile. The discovery is significant, as Nvidia had closed its offices in Russia and ceased direct sales to the country back in 2022, following the outbreak of the war.

The Jetson Orin NX 16GB unit found in the missile was released a year after Nvidia's decision, suggesting that the component made its way to Russia through other means. Nvidia stated that pre-owned Jetsons are available through many reseller channels and may have been used in the missile despite export controls.

The discovery of the Nvidia module has raised concerns about the use of artificial intelligence technologies in Russian military equipment. The Ukrainian intelligence agency found over 35 electronic components in the missile, including several that should be subject to export controls.
