Nvidia Ponders $10 Billion Stake in Anthropic's $100 Billion IPO
Nvidia is reportedly considering investing $10 billion in Anthropic's initial public offering (IPO), which could value the AI company at around $2 trillion. This investment would be a significant stake, representing about half of 1% of the company. However, it would also buy Nvidia a lot of goodwill and reassure other investors.
The IPO plans may slip past the US midterm elections in November, but neither company has confirmed the talks. Anthropic is looking to raise as much as $100 billion from its listing, with some of that money going towards expanding its computing capacity to meet growing demand for its Claude models.
Nvidia's first investment in Anthropic was a $10 billion check tied to hardware sales, but this new investment would be more about buying its own demand and staying close to a major customer. Anthropic has also lined up significant compute capacity from Amazon and Google, which could reduce Nvidia's influence over the company.
