Nvidia Reveals $21 Billion SpaceX Stake as Tech Partnership Deepens
Nvidia has disclosed a substantial $21 billion stake in SpaceX, making the rocket company its second-largest holding after Intel. The chipmaker now owns 122.8 million Class A shares in SpaceX, a position that emerged from Nvidia's $10 billion investment in Elon Musk's xAI before SpaceX acquired the AI firm in February 2026. The disclosure came in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, highlighting the deepening partnership between the two companies in data centers and artificial intelligence.
SpaceX's stock closed at $140 on Friday, down from $170.86 at the end of June, valuing Nvidia's stake at approximately $17.2 billion. This investment ranks Nvidia as the sixth-largest investor in SpaceX, trailing Musk himself, whose stake is worth about $850 billion, and Alphabet, with a holding valued at around $78 billion. Nvidia's shares in SpaceX originated from its participation in a $20 billion funding round for xAI in January 2026.
During SpaceX's first public earnings call last week, Elon Musk emphasized the company's exclusive partnership with Nvidia, praising its Vera Rubin architecture as the best AI computer. Musk indicated that SpaceX expects a significant allocation of Nvidia's Vera Rubin GPUs next year, underscoring the strategic importance of their collaboration. At the time of the disclosure, SpaceX stock was trading 0.35% higher in after-hours trading, while Nvidia shares edged 0.12% lower.
Retail sentiment on Stocktwits reflected a 'neutral' outlook for Nvidia, with 'normal' message volume, while SpaceX saw 'extremely bullish' sentiment. Year-to-date, Nvidia's stock has gained nearly 20%, while SpaceX shares have declined nearly 7% since their June debut.
