Nvidia Shield Sold Out Amid Component Shortage
Nvidia's Shield TV streaming box has been sold out worldwide due to an ongoing component shortage. The Pro version is listed as 'out of stock' on Nvidia's website, while the cheaper non-Pro variant has been removed entirely.
The company has dismissed rumors that it plans to discontinue the Shield, attributing the shortage to high demand rather than a lack of components. In fact, Nvidia has committed to continuing software support for the device and is even considering new hardware with advanced features like AV1, HDR10+, and expanded Dolby Vision support.
Interestingly, the Shield TV remains one of the few streaming boxes that haven't increased in price due to the component shortage, unlike Apple TV, Fire TV, Roku, and Google TV Streamer. This suggests that Nvidia may be absorbing the costs or prioritizing customer satisfaction over short-term profits.
