Nvidia Shields TV Pro Price Hike Cites Memory Costs

Nvidia has increased the price of its Shield TV Pro streaming box by $100 to $299.99, citing higher component costs. The Android TV device launched in 2019 at $199.99 and still runs on the Tegra X1+ processor it shipped with back then.

The company attributes the price hike to rising memory costs across the industry, which has been affected by the shift towards generative AI technology. Nvidia is a major supplier of AI accelerators and GPUs, placing it in a tight spot between being a central component supplier and facing increasing costs itself.

Existing Shield TV Pro stock was already limited, and the new price gives Nvidia room to produce more units at current component costs. The device remains listed as out of stock on Nvidia's own store, but Best Buy sells it at the new price.
