Nvidia Stock Tumbles Amid AI Development Slower-Down Calls

Nvidia's stock price fell nearly 3% on Monday amid concerns over the pace of artificial intelligence development. Executives at major AI companies, including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, called for a slower approach to advancing increasingly capable models.

Amodei cited growing concerns about the potential misuse of artificial intelligence and proposed slowing down the rate of model capability advancement. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and xAI chief Elon Musk expressed agreement with Amodei's proposal.

The comments have raised questions about the impact on Nvidia, whose business has benefited from the expansion of AI infrastructure. Bernstein analysts led by Stacy Rasgon argued that a slowdown in AI development does not necessarily mean a slowdown in spending.

Rasgon noted that there is already insufficient computing capacity to meet demand for existing AI models, suggesting that infrastructure requirements could remain substantial despite concerns over model development.
