NVIDIA Taps Google Vet for Sustainability Role as EU Simplifies Reporting

NVIDIA has appointed Savannah Goodman as its new Global Lead of Energy & Infrastructure Sustainability. Goodman joins NVIDIA after a six-year tenure at Google, where she worked on sustainability and energy management.

The European Union's simplified European Sustainability Reporting Standard (ESRS) has come into effect, providing companies with a standardized reporting framework ahead of mandatory application in 2027. The ESRS reduces the number of required data points by around 70%, while adding new reporting reliefs to minimize compliance costs.

In related news, the UK government has launched a consultation on plans to update its corporate reporting framework and reduce administrative burden by 25%. Additionally, Google's Chief Sustainability Officer Kate Brandt has been awarded second place in Sustainability Magazine's Top 250 Sustainability Leaders 2026 for her work on environmental stewardship and responsible AI.

Isabel DiVanna of the Carbon Trust argues that achieving net zero will require directing capital towards high-emitting sectors such as steel, cement, chemicals, aviation, shipping, and fossil fuels. She advocates for credible action, technological innovation, and transforming today's biggest emitters into tomorrow's transition leaders.
