Nvidia Taps Grid Capacity to Fuel AI-Driven Growth
Nvidia's datacenter business is facing a challenge that has nothing to do with competition from AMD or Intel. The power grid, which supplies electricity to its customers' datacenters, can only handle so much before it starts to strain under the weight of increasing demand.
The company's senior director, Dion Harris, acknowledged this issue in an interview. 'We're literally trying to think about how can we eke out every bit of efficiency to drive more performance per gigawatt,' he said.
Nvidia has developed a platform called DSX MaxLPS that helps datacenters make the most of their power capacity by reducing overheads and optimizing energy usage. The system uses APIs to gather information from various systems, including those from vendors like Vertiv and Schneider Electric, to maximize efficiency.
