Nvidia Unveils DLSS 5, Bringing Photorealism to PC Gaming with AI-Powered Rendering
Nvidia's latest neural rendering technology, DLSS 5, is set to revolutionize PC gaming. The tech giant has announced that NBA 2K27 will be the first game to support DLSS 5, exclusively on GeForce RTX 50-series GPUs. This new technology uses AI to enhance lighting, materials, and visual details within a game's existing rendering pipeline.
Unlike previous DLSS technologies, DLSS 5 focuses on achieving photorealism by leveraging 3D-Guided Neural Rendering. Nvidia claims that this can produce effects that would otherwise require an enormous number of ray-tracing calculations. The system also gives developers control over how the neural rendering is applied.
Nvidia is demonstrating DLSS 5 in NBA 2K27, where it improves lighting and skin rendering while preserving facial scans from real-world basketball players. This approach ensures that the athletes look realistic without altering their underlying facial geometry. Performance-wise, Nvidia says NBA 2K27 can reach nearly 600 FPS on an RTX 5090 with DLSS 5 enabled.
