Nvidia's $13B Hugging Face Acquisition Fuels Developer Ecosystem Expansion
Nvidia's $12.9 billion acquisition of Hugging Face is not just about strengthening its position in artificial intelligence, according to one investor.
Willy Lee from Neostellar Capital believes that Nvidia is actually moving upstream in the AI development cycle by gaining a strategic foothold at the beginning of the process.
This gives Nvidia a deeper understanding of how developers build with open-source models and allows it to expand its influence across a broader developer ecosystem.
The acquisition also gives Nvidia a chance to deepen adoption of its software ecosystem as developers move from experimentation to production, according to Lee.
Nvidia's management has pledged to keep Hugging Face open and hardware-agnostic after the acquisition, allowing developers to continue choosing their preferred models, cloud providers, and computing platforms.
