Nvidia's 580 Driver Branch Breaks Steam Link VR on Linux

Valve has confirmed that Nvidia's 580 driver branch is incompatible with Steam Link VR on Linux. The issue affects several owners of various graphics cards, including those with RTX and GTX models.

The problem is caused by a missing Vulkan extension, VK_KHR_maintenance9, which is required for SteamVR to function properly. This diagnosis was made by an owner who used Vulkan loader debugging to identify the issue.

Valve has acknowledged the incompatibility but has not provided any information on whether it will be fixed or how long it may take. Meanwhile, owners of compatible drivers have reported that they can work around the issue by updating their drivers.
