Nvidia's AI Earnings: Wall Street Counts on Record Sales
Nvidia is facing immense pressure to deliver strong results in its upcoming earnings report on August 26, as Wall Street counts on the company to keep the AI party going. With a projected record sales of $92 billion and annual earnings growth exceeding 95%, Nvidia must outrun expectations and beat estimates for the 15th consecutive quarter.
The company has been playing a widening role as backstop, providing financing and guarantees for various projects, including an up to $105 billion backstop for OpenAI's new Ohio data center. This move has sparked concerns about Nvidia's increasing dominance in the AI market, particularly with its 'asset-light pseudo-cloud' model that allows selective credit to neo-clouds and sovereigns.
Nvidia is also investing heavily in US open weight and open source AI technologies, including a $6 billion licensing deal with Poolside and a separate $1 billion equity investment. This move aims to counter China's open-weight momentum and offer alternatives to closed-source frontier models.
