Nvidia's Historic $150 Billion Buyback Plan Sets Stage for Potential Stock Surge
Nvidia has announced an increase in its share repurchase authorization by $150 billion, bringing its total remaining authorization to $235 billion. This is the largest increase in history, according to CEO Jensen Huang.
The move is seen as a sign that Nvidia's management believes the stock is undervalued, trading at 29 times trailing earnings compared to the Nasdaq Composite index's average of 39. The forward earnings multiple of 25 is even more attractive.
Nvidia has delivered robust growth, with non-GAAP earnings per share increasing by 120% year-over-year in the second quarter of fiscal 2027. The company expects $108 billion in revenue for the current quarter, up 89% from the same period last year.
The forecast for the next couple of years points toward healthy increases in Nvidia's bottom line, with earnings per share poised to nearly double in fiscal 2027 to $9.31. The company estimates that annual AI infrastructure spending could soar to $3-$4 trillion in 2030, and its status as the dominant AI chip designer puts it in a solid position to capitalize on this growth opportunity.
