PepsiCo, Ferrero, and Google Lead the Way in Procurement Innovation
PepsiCo's Chief Procurement Officer Marcelo Stefani has taken an unconventional approach to strengthening its global potato farming supply chain. The company convened over 140 growers, suppliers, and agronomists from more than 35 countries for the Global Agro University in Hannover, a capability-building program that showcases how procurement strategy is increasingly intertwined with supplier development.
The event was a key component of PepsiCo's efforts to address raw material risk through direct investment in its supply base. With over 300,000 farmers across more than 60 countries supplying the company, events like Global Agro University reflect a broader shift towards proactive procurement strategies.
Another notable partnership is between Ferrero and Arla, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions linked to dairy production at farm level through financial incentives, access to primary carbon data, and piloting of innovative practices. This collaboration could serve as a model for procurement teams seeking to integrate sustainability criteria into supplier selection and performance monitoring.
In related news, Google's Jennifer Moceri has implemented AI in her company's procurement strategy. As the Vice President of Global Procurement & Chief Procurement Officer at Google, she oversees the company's first central procurement organization established under its parent company Alphabet. Alphabet aims to durably reengineer its cost base and streamline global supplier operations.
Finally, Ivalua brought its Procurement Innovation on Tour series to New York, gathering over 150 procurement leaders for an afternoon focused on AI, supplier risk, and transformation case studies.
