Perplexity Portable Computer Streamlines Local AI Development
The AI software setup process can be daunting for those who aren't tech-savvy. Perplexity and NVIDIA have collaborated to launch a solution called Portable Computer, which simplifies local AI development.
Portable Computer is a free add-on to Perplexity's AI subscription services that provides all necessary software components in one bundle, making it easy to install and use.
The initial release focuses on running on NVIDIA GB10 hardware like the DGX Spark or Dell Pro Max with GB10, as well as x86 PCs with at least 24 GB of VRAM. This includes GeForce RTX 3090 and 4090 GPUs and will expand to support Windows in September.
The software supports Qwen3.8 27B, a dense model with 27 billion parameters, and Nemotron 3.5 Lightning, which has 30 billion parameters and is expected to arrive soon. This allows users to connect to Gmail, Google Drive, Slack, and GitHub using the harness's plugins.
