Personalized Cancer Vaccine Shows Promising Results in Major Breakthrough

A major breakthrough in cancer research has been announced after a personalized vaccine developed by Merck & Co and Moderna was shown to prevent melanoma from returning following surgery.

The vaccine, which uses mRNA technology, targets cancer cells based on patients' tumour DNA and was tested alongside an immunotherapy drug in a phase three trial with 1,000 participants.

Preliminary results suggest that patients who received the treatment remained cancer-free for longer than expected.

The developers of the vaccine have hailed the findings as a 'pivotal moment' for cancer research, with Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel calling them a 'landmark moment'.
