Pixel Tag Ditches Bulky Design with Slimmer Tracker

Google has launched its first attempt at creating a tile-style tracker, called the Pixel Tag. This new device breaks away from the typical AirTag-inspired design by being significantly slimmer than competitors.

The Pixel Tag measures 46.1mm by 28mm and is just 5.4mm thick, making it roughly a third thinner than both the AirTag 2 and Galaxy SmartTag 2, which are around 8mm thick. This slim design allows the device to easily fit into wallets or passport sleeves without being noticeable.

The Pixel Tag's standout feature is its dual-tracking capability, made possible by Bluetooth Channel Sounding, which requires Android 16 and Bluetooth 6.0. Unlike traditional distance-guessing methods that can be fooled by physical obstacles or body interference, Bluetooth 6.0 measures distance using radio phase shifts, unlocking higher (sub-meter) accuracy.

Additionally, the Pixel Tag has a user-swappable CR2032 coin cell battery that lasts over a year and an IP67 rating for protection against dust and water exposure up to one meter deep for 30 minutes.
