Polymarket Hires Ex-Goldman Sachs Partner Amid Regulator Scrutiny

Polymarket has hired Lisa Mantil as its new head of institutional growth. Mantil, a former partner at Goldman Sachs, brings nearly three decades of experience in the financial industry to the role.

Mantil's appointment comes as prediction markets are gaining attention from regulators and lawmakers in Washington D.C. The House Oversight Committee and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) have both been scrutinizing the activities of prediction markets, with at least three investigations launched by the CFTC into Polymarket's trades this year.

Polymarket has faced criticism over its handling of certain contracts, including those linked to former President Joseph Biden's pardons and Google-themed contracts. The company has maintained that it has its markets under control, pointing to proprietary surveillance software designed by a former FBI official.
