A Port Neches woman has been charged with stealing more than $1.7 million from her employer over seven years. Thalia Powers, 51, was arrested on Thursday and remains jailed on a $750,000 bond.

Powers worked as the office manager for BioMedical Waste Solutions in Jefferson County, Texas. She made 154 online web payments and account transfers to her personal lines of credit at American Express, Bank of America Visa, and Comenity Capital between April 2018 and February 2025.

The owner of BioMedical Waste Solutions discovered unauthorized charges on one of his business checking accounts in February 2025. After reviewing past statements, he suspected Powers due to her access to the account. Through a subpoena process, investigators confirmed that Powers was behind the fraudulent transactions.
