Quantum computing firm QC Ware has successfully combined classical and quantum systems to study enzyme chemistry. The company used its Promethium platform, which runs on GPUs, alongside IBM's 156-qubit Heron superconducting quantum processor.
The demonstration focused on calculating the electrostatic interaction energy of nitric oxide reductase, a complex metalloenzyme system. This property is crucial for understanding interactions between molecules and has applications in drug discovery, catalysis, and materials science.
QC Ware split the workflow between classical and quantum systems, using GPUs to handle molecular modeling and other conventional chemistry calculations while the IBM processor performed quantum measurements.
