Raji Ditches Outlook Over Data Security Concerns: Switches to FairEmail

Oluwaniyi Raji, a tech content specialist, made the decision to delete Outlook from his Android device after learning about its data collection practices. He discovered that Outlook syncs third-party accounts, including Gmail and Yahoo, with Microsoft's servers, which raised concerns about data security.

Raji was initially attracted to Outlook due to its user-friendly interface and seamless setup process. However, he became uneasy when he realized that his personal emails were being copied to Microsoft's data centers. This discovery led him to explore alternative email clients.

Raji ultimately chose FairEmail, an open-source client that prioritizes data security and transparency. Unlike Outlook, FairEmail does not route emails through a server controlled by the developer, ensuring that user data remains private. One of the features that won Raji over was FairEmail's ability to block images in messages by default, which helps prevent tracking.

Raji noted that convenience often comes at the cost of privacy, but he prefers to opt for secure alternatives like FairEmail. The app does require some daily maintenance, such as allowing a foreground service to keep the connection alive, but this is a small price to pay for data security.
