Romania's TAROM Takes Delivery of First Boeing 737 MAX

TAROM, Romania's flag carrier airline, has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737-8, marking an important step in the company's restructuring and fleet-modernisation programme.

The aircraft, named Mircea Lucescu, is leased from CDB Aviation and will be deployed on routes from Bucharest to major European capitals. It represents the first of two 737-8s joining TAROM's single-aisle fleet, which currently includes four previous-generation Boeing 737s.

According to Boeing, the 737-8 consumes 20% less fuel and produces lower carbon emissions compared to the aircraft it replaces, while offering improved operating efficiency and passenger comfort.

TAROM's Chief Executive Cristian Anghel said that the delivery would support the airline's efforts to increase efficiency, modernise its operations, and build a younger fleet. Boeing forecasts that Eurasian airlines will expand their combined fleet from around 6,800 aircraft today to almost 11,000 by 2045, with single-aisle models accounting for approximately 81% of new deliveries.
