Russia Prepares for Possible Restrictions on Google's Android Developer Checks

Russia's Ministry of Digital Development is preparing for potential restrictions on Google's Android developer checks.

The ministry fears that the upcoming checks could keep Russian applications off Android phones over time, citing concerns that developers may be restricted from freely installing mobile programs.

Minister Maksut Shadaev stated that the rules may stop Russians from installing software from unverified developers, which would disproportionately affect those who have been removed from online marketplaces.

The Russian government is assessing the dangers of the new checks and preparing proposals with industry groups to limit potential damage. Google has not announced any ban on Russian developers but plans to expand the checks to more countries in 2027, including possibly Russia.
