Ryder Cup Qualification System Overhaul for 2027

The PGA of America has introduced a new qualification system for the U.S. Ryder Cup Team in 2027, led by captain Jim Furyk. The system awards points only during the 2027 season across 31 designated events, starting at The American Express in January and ending with the BMW Championship in August.

The top six eligible Americans will automatically qualify for the team after the BMW Championship, while captain Furyk will make six captain's selections during the week following the Tour Championship. Winners of major championships will receive 3,000 points, while The Players Championship winner earns 2,850.

This system puts a clear premium on performance during the actual Ryder Cup year rather than rewarding accomplishments from the previous season. Opposite-field events won't award Ryder Cup points, and at the Zurich Classic, both members of a team must be eligible for the U.S. Ryder Cup team in order to earn points.
