S&P 500 companies have achieved record profit margins in Q2, according to Intellectia AI. The blended net profit margin reached 16.9%, significantly up from 14.8% in Q1 and 12.9% a year ago.
Alphabet and Amazon are the largest contributors to this increase, with Alphabet's operating margin rising from 32% to 34%, and Amazon's increasing from 11.4% to 13.7%. This reflects strong performance in both revenue and profit for these companies.
Excluding Alphabet and Amazon, the S&P 500 margin still stands at 15%, a record high, indicating that most sectors are experiencing margin improvements, particularly in technology, communication services, consumer discretionary, and energy.
