Salesforce Fires Back at Microsoft with AIforce Platform
At its Dreamforce conference in San Francisco on September 15, Salesforce unveiled AIforce, a new platform designed to integrate external AI tools into its sprawling CRM ecosystem. CEO Marc Benioff took aim at Microsoft's Copilot, calling it 'the new Clippy.'
Copilot was an animated paperclip that would pop up uninvited in Microsoft Office, offering help nobody asked for and answers nobody trusted. Benioff criticized Copilot as lacking reliable data grounding.
AIforce is a live interface layer that bridges Salesforce's data, workflows, and governance frameworks with outside AI systems. This allows users to access its capabilities without being inside the traditional Salesforce interface. Three core components are working in tandem: Claudeforce, built in partnership with Anthropic's Claude AI; Slackforce, which connects Salesforce tools directly into Slack workflows; and Agentforce Coworker, an AI agent that lives inside Salesforce's Lightning interface.
The platform launched with 37 prebuilt sales skills and a zero data retention policy. Conversations and queries aren't stored by the AI model after processing. Claudeforce is in public beta.
Agentforce Coworker racked up 100,000 activations in its first 35 days after launch. The broader Agentforce product suite has crossed $1 billion in annual recurring revenue. Salesforce's stock closed at $255.65 on September 15, reflecting a 34% gain over the previous month.
