Salesforce Stumbles as Global Outage Hits Hundreds of Instances

Salesforce experienced an hours-long outage on Wednesday that affected hundreds of instances worldwide, including in the USA, Japan, India, the UK, France, and Germany.

The service disruption began around 0930 BST (0830 UTC) on September 16 and caused severe delays, intermittent errors, and inability to access services for customers, including support case creation.

Salesforce's investigation indicated that requests were stalling while waiting on a response from an internal login service, which was using up available server resources.

The outage came at a bad time for the SaaS company as it kicked off its annual conference, Dreamforce, in San Francisco with over 40,000 people attending in person and more than 200,000 registered to attend online.
