Salesforce Taps AI for Smarter, More Efficient Software Development

Salesforce is rethinking the traditional approach to software development by leveraging AI coding agents to boost engineer productivity.

The company has deployed AI tools, including Anthropic's Claude Code, across its engineering organization and seen a significant increase in output without hiring additional engineers.

Chef Marc Benioff revealed that Salesforce hasn't hired more engineers recently due to the enhanced productivity from AI coding agents.

The results are striking: work items completed by each developer rose 50.8% year-on-year, while pull requests increased 79% per developer in April 2026.
