Samsung Uninstalls SwiftKey from One UI 9 Devices
The Samsung Galaxy One UI 9 update now allows users to fully uninstall Microsoft SwiftKey on their devices. This change was first noticed by SamMobile's hands-on test on a Galaxy S26 Ultra running Beta 5, where the option to uninstall SwiftKey was available.
For years, Samsung devices have come with SwiftKey preinstalled, but users were unable to remove it from their internal storage. Now, users can check if they have the uninstall option by opening the SwiftKey Keyboard app's info screen and looking at the button next to its name. If it reads 'Uninstall,' the phone has the new option.
Removing SwiftKey will free up about 55MB of space on the device. This change is primarily seen as a matter of control for users, who can choose not to use SwiftKey in the first place. However, it's worth noting that deleting an active default keyboard could interrupt text entry.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy A57 are two newer devices that ship without SwiftKey preinstalled. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 may follow a similar pattern, but this has not been confirmed.
