San Diego Couple Sentenced to Prison for Mail Theft Scheme
A couple in San Diego has been sentenced to federal prison for stealing people's personal checks from mailboxes. David Anthony Burge, 34, and his wife Kyrsten Renee Bospflug, 36, were found guilty of using stolen U.S. Postal Service keys to access and steal mail containing the checks.
The victims included several out-of-state banks, Navy Federal Credit Union, J.P. Morgan Chase, and American Express. The couple would alter the stolen checks so they could cash them.
Burge was sentenced to four years in prison, while his wife received 37 months. Their sentences will run consecutive to their state court sentences for a similar scheme.
