Scheffler Sizzles with Record-Breaking Round at FedEx St. Jude Championship
Scottie Scheffler's impressive round of 61 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship has given the PGA Tour's playoffs a much-needed boost, catapulting him into the lead with three shots to spare.
The temperatures in Memphis soared to triple digits on Friday afternoon, but Scheffler remained focused, storming out to six birdies in his first seven holes and sharing the lead with Sungjae Im. He added four more birdies between Nos. 13-17 to reach 11 under par for the week, three ahead of Im.
Scheffler's round was notable not just for its low score but also for its significance in the FedEx Cup playoffs, which have long struggled to capture the interest of fans and players alike. The No. 1 player in the world leads the season-long FedEx Cup standings despite not winning since The American Express in January.
'Really just a dream start,' Scheffler said after his round. 'Probably one of the best starts I've had on Tour, to be honest with you. I couldn't tell you a time where I've been lower early in the round.'
