Scheffler Takes Charge at FedEx St. Jude, But Can He Close?
Scottie Scheffler finally took the lead at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, but now he has to finish it off on Sunday. The world No. 1 holds a two-shot edge over Sam Burns and Sungjae Im after shooting a 2-under 68 on Saturday.
Scheffler's first 54-hole lead of the year is a new experience for him in 2026, but he has been trying to run people down most of this season. He won The American Express in January, and then had several top finishes and runner-up results while playing catch-up.
This week has been different, as Scheffler blew open the tournament with a course-record-tying 61 on Friday. On Saturday, he played his first seven holes in 1-over before settling down, thanks to some clutch putts and three back-nine birdies, including one at the par-5 16th.
Burns fired an 8-under 62 on Saturday, the best round of the day, and will play alongside Scheffler in the final pairing. Burns knows what he's facing: 'He's not going to lay down,' Burns said of Scheffler. Im is right behind, just two shots back.
