Sector Rotation Intensifies as US Stocks Surge Amid Divergent Performance

US stocks surged on August 5 as sector rotation intensified. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained over 420 points, while the S&P 500 Index and Nasdaq Composite also rose.

The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index was relatively subdued, gaining just 0.05%. However, not all chip stocks participated in the rally. AMD plunged nearly 6%, with its price falling $30.88. Apple and Intel also declined, by about 0.25% and 0.97%, respectively.

Hon Hai Precision Industry's ADR surged more than 4.13%, becoming the brightest spot among Taiwan-based firms. In contrast, ASE Technology Holding's ADR fell 3.20%, while UMC's ADR declined 4.87%. This divergence reflects investors rotating out of certain chip and hardware stocks that have already rallied significantly.

Market analysts note that capital is flowing toward names with stronger AI-driven catalysts or higher defensive characteristics, resulting in extreme performance differences among individual stocks.
