Seinfeld's Secret Role in Creating the Exclusive American Express Black Card

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld revealed on Sebastian Maniscalco's podcast We Got Company that he played a significant role in creating the American Express Centurion Card, also known as the Black Card.

The card is exclusive to top spenders and has many rumored benefits. According to Seinfeld, a crew member approached him during a 1996 commercial shoot and whispered about a supposed secret Black Card only accessible to the Sultan of Brunei and the president of American Express.

Seinfeld jokingly said he wanted one, which prompted him to call Harvey Golub, the then-president of American Express. Seinfeld recalled saying, 'Let's do it, let's make the Black Card,' and Golub agreed to look into it.

The result was the Centurion Card, which Seinfeld received as the first cardholder but reportedly threw out afterwards. He laughed, 'I don't know what happened to it.' The exact benefits of the card remain shrouded in mystery, with American Express confirming little about its perks.
