Sherwin-Williams Dubs Celery 2027 Color of the Year

Sherwin-Williams has named Celery as its 2027 Color of the Year. The company announced this on September 15, describing the soft, muted green with subtle yellow undertones as an 'airy, herbal green' that brings 'fresh perspectives and elegance' to a space.

Celery SW 6421 was chosen for its ability to reflect three things people increasingly want from their homes: wellness, balance, and connection. Ashley Banbury, the company's color marketing manager, described it as 'calming yet uplifting,' while noting that it works well alongside natural wood tones and deeper jewel tones.

The choice of Celery has sparked some debate, with some people comparing it to 'hospital green' or even vomit. Others have expressed frustration with the muted-color era, saying they're 'sick of muted colors.'

However, Sherwin-Williams is not alone in making predictions for 2027. Other companies, such as Behr and Valspar, have already chosen their Colors of the Year, which include Grounded (an earthy olive green) and Cottage Door (a muted blue). Benjamin Moore is expected to reveal its pick in October, while Pantone has yet to announce its successor to Cloud Dancer, a soft white it named its 2026 Color of the Year.
