Software Sector Shows Signs of Recovery Amid Ongoing AI-Driven Disruption
Software has finally shown signs of recovery from its lows in April, giving investors like those who hold iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF (IGV) a much-needed respite. The sector has been resilient in its recovery momentum and earnings resilience. Despite this, it may be unreasonable to expect a return to peak valuation multiples as AI-driven disruption continues to reshape the landscape.
Companies such as Salesforce, ServiceNow, Palantir, and HubSpot are dispelling fears about AI monetization. For instance, CRM's AIForce offering enables seamless integration with Anthropic, creating new monetization levers for these companies. This is particularly evident in the case of HubSpot, which has seen accelerating agent adoption and ARR growth.
However, some concerns remain. ZDR initiatives are helping to protect proprietary data and competitive moats for SaaS firms. Nevertheless, this recovery momentum and earnings resilience may not be enough to justify a return to peak valuation multiples in the software sector.
