SpaceX Bolsters Data Center Capacity with Massive Nvidia GPU Purchase
SpaceX is expanding its data center capacity by purchasing an additional 440,000 Nvidia GPUs. This move will not only bolster Nvidia's revenue but also provide SpaceX with a significant source of compute power for its own needs.
The company plans to lease the new capacity in the short term and use it to support its AI division as it scales. Eventually, this infrastructure could be repurposed to support SpaceX's ambitious plans to launch satellites that serve as data centers by 2028.
Currently, SpaceX has a deal with Alphabet to rent out compute capacity, which is expected to generate $26 billion annually. The company can also lease the new capacity and use it to fund its AI infrastructure expansion. This move could eventually allow SpaceX to reduce its reliance on renting compute capacity from others and instead tap into its own infrastructure.
