SpaceX Deploys Next-Gen Starlink as Amazon's Leo Service Struggles with Delays

SpaceX is preparing for a significant launch that will deploy its first Starlink V3 satellites, which offer improved capabilities to the expanding Starlink constellation. The mission will also attempt to deploy SpaceX's Starship into Earth orbit for the first time. This comes as Amazon's Leo satellite service continues to face setbacks, including delays in its launch partners and a significantly lower number of launched satellites compared to Starlink.

Amazon has only successfully deployed 396 Leo satellites since July 2nd, far behind the over 11,000 satellites currently operational with Starlink. The company had previously stated that it had 'a clear path to increase launch and deployment cadence' following its last successful launch, but this hasn't materialized.

The issues are largely due to problems with Amazon's launch partners, including Vulcan and Blue Origin, which have both been grounded by the US Space Force or experienced technical difficulties. Additionally, Amazon has ordered six additional launches for Arianespace's A64 rocket, but these missions are also facing delays.
