SPACEX MARKET CAP RACE: WILL IT SURPASS AMAZON AND MICROSOFT?
SpaceX's market cap briefly surpassed Amazon and Microsoft after its IPO in what some may consider an aberration. The company's stock, SPCX, reached a high of $2.9 trillion during intraday trading, outdoing the combined value of Amazon (AMZN) and Microsoft (MSFT) at the time.
The disparity between the companies' market caps has since widened, with SpaceX now valued at approximately $1.95 trillion after experiencing a significant pullback following its IPO hype. Analysts suggest that it's unlikely for SpaceX to reach such a milestone anytime soon unless it makes some unprecedented moves.
One of the main reasons is the vast difference in quarterly revenue between the companies. In Q2 2026, SpaceX's revenue was $7.8 billion, up 92% from the previous year, but still dwarfed by Amazon's $201 billion and Microsoft's $90 billion. This means it would take SpaceX around five years to match Microsoft's revenue and two additional years to reach Amazon's.
A possible catalyst for a SpaceX stock double could be a merger with Tesla, its CEO Elon Musk's other tech giant. Combining the companies' market caps would result in a value of approximately $3.4 trillion, surpassing Amazon's current valuation of $2.7 trillion and coming close to Microsoft's $3.8 trillion.
