SpaceX vs Amazon: Which Space Pioneer Will Reign Supreme?
SpaceX and Amazon are two of the most popular stocks in the market right now. Both companies have ambitious plans for space exploration, but they also have significant differences in their business models. SpaceX's Starlink is a much more established satellite internet service than Amazon's offering, with over 11,000 operational satellites compared to around 400 for Amazon.
Amazon has struggled to secure launch times and often relies on SpaceX or other companies like Blue Origin and Arianespace. While it plans to offer commercial services by year-end, it remains far behind SpaceX in this area. However, Amazon is working on developing chips that can withstand cosmic radiation and is also developing ammonia-based liquid cooling for its orbital data centers.
Both companies are also leaders in the infrastructure-as-a-service market, but their business models differ significantly. SpaceX sees rapid growth in this area, with payback periods of less than a year, while Amazon signs up AI customers for contracts of five or more years and sees a payback period of two to three years.
Amazon's cloud business is considered more durable and sustainable, as it has developed its own custom chips and can shift more of its cloud business to these chips over time. SpaceX, on the other hand, uses Nvidia's graphics processing units exclusively.
