Spectacular Spider-Man Pays Homage to Classic Marvel Coca-Cola Posters
The comic book series Spectacular Spider-Man has been making waves in the Marvel universe with its stunning splash pages. But have you noticed anything familiar about them? The series' writer, Dan Slott, recently revealed that he asked artist Marcos Martin to draw inspiration from the 1980 Marvel Coca-Cola posters.
These posters, which featured the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man, were originally designed for a promotional campaign in the early 1980s. The posters gave a brief rundown on each character's origin, powers, and status quo, with a large image of the hero at the end and a giant logo.
Slott fondly remembered these posters from his childhood and pitched the idea to Martin as a way to create splash pages for Spectacular Spider-Man. The result was a beautifully drawn page that captured the essence of the original posters.
However, Slott notes that Martin wasn't available to do any splash pages for issues four and five, but with the series now being promoted to an ongoing title, he plans on bringing Martin back for more work in the future.
