Springville Man Accused of Stealing Over $15,000 in Home Depot and Lowe's Merchandise

A Springville man has been accused of stealing over $15,000 in merchandise from Home Depot and Lowe's stores using self-checkouts.

According to the indictment brought by the Utah Attorney General's Office, Michael Alan Williams, 46, allegedly used 'skip-scanning' to commit retail theft at multiple locations.

The investigation revealed that Williams visited the Lowe's in Spanish Fork 37 times between February and May 2025, and the Orem location once. He would scan and pay for some merchandise but intentionally skip paying for other items.

A total of 104 thefts were committed across different stores, resulting in a loss of $15,235.37. Williams was arrested on June 10 after police obtained a residential search warrant and found stolen merchandise at his home.
