Starbucks is planning to set up a global capability centre (GCC) in Chennai, India. The move will create around 800 jobs in the first phase.

The US coffee chain already has around 500 cafes in India through its joint venture with Tata Consumer Products. It did not immediately respond to a request for comment on this new development.

This comes days after pharmacy chain Walgreens signed a pact with the Tamil Nadu state government to establish a GCC in Chennai, which is home to tech centres of global corporates like Citi, Barclays, and American Express.
